Yurcich Presser 2020-02-11
Here are my notes from Yurcich’s presser.
- Very complementary to his wife
- Sam is a “proven winner” and a “big reason he chose this position”
- Thrilled to recruit in Texas
- Texas is best HS football state
- Not going to change too much from a “bones” standpoint
- Doesn’t want 60 guys to have to learn something new
- A lot of OSU-style here
- Morph and change and develop but not a dramatic change
- Tweaks, additions, and deletions, continuous process
- “Players, formations, plays”
- Players have to be playing “fast”
- Complementary to Mike Gundy “he moves boulders instead of pebbles”
- Funniest take: Calling plays “gets me off”. He literally said that.
- Thinks Big12 is so good at teaching the passing game. “Big12 is superior than
any other conference in America” when it comes to moving the football.
- Defenses are more dynamic in how they defend you in the Big12, thinks it’s due
to the evolution in Big12 offenses.
- Loves Sam’s “toughness”.
- Sam is “high football IQ” and “good business mind”. “A very intelligent man”.
“Good footwork”.
- Sam is the “total package”.
- His leadership ability is his “most significant trait”.
- Thinks it’s good for Sam to display leadership to the incoming freshman,
specifically mentions Hudson Card.
- Got to get our best 11 and he returns to the “Players, formations, plays”. Bet
we’re going to hear that until we’re sick of hearing it.
- Hints at a limited playbook and using tempo to make up for lack of variety.
- The point of tempo is to:
- interrupt the DC’s communication to the safetey and Mike
- and to exhaust the D
And that’s where it ends.
