sub-classes
So, I finally have time to sit down and start reading Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, I think I’m going to write some blog posts on each of the new sub classes as well as my thoughts on them.
Sub-Class | Combat | Role Play |
---|---|---|
Path of the Ancestral Guardian | The spirit shield and protectors mechanic seems like fun and useful in combat at the same time. | I love the idea of Consult the Spirits for role play. Lots of cool character concepts can be based around the ancestors. There’s a good amount of utility here as Consult the Spirits can be used after each short or long rest. |
Path of the Storm Herald | I’m not really seeing the point of this path especially at lower levels. Most lower-level combats end in few rounds, so these small amounts of damage aren’t really going to count as a much for AOE purposes. There’s lots of role-play potential for the class, what with all the storm effects. | Meh. |
Path of the Zealot | Yes! I love this concept for combat. Divine fury is great, and Zealous presence is awesome. | Great RP potential here to bring a god into a campaign. Love it. |
I really like Path of the Zealot and Path of the Ancestral Guardians. I don’t really care about Path of the Storm Herald; it just doesn’t do it for me. Thoughts?
