Hurray! Wizards of the Coast has released a portion of 5E content into the Open Game License (“OGL”)! This is wonderful news for the 5E ecosystem. Read on for more.
Here’s the link to Wizard’s website. Caution, Wizard’s has a habit of breaking links over time, so I apologize in advance if they break the link. Wizard’s even has a nice chart of what you can and can’t do with the OGL. Here’s the direct link to downloading the SRD PDF.
They’ve also introduced their own online marketplace called Dungeon Masters Guild (“DMGuild”) that looks like a DriveThruRpg website. The big idea there is that you can write adventures in the Forgotten Realms! This will certainly appeal to some gamers out there. It’s my understanding that Wizard’s will take a 50% cut of all sales on DMGuild. I would also imagine there be much more red tape such as Wizard’s having a purchase right to Forgotten Realms content and so on. Make sure to read and understand all of the fine print for both the OGL and DMGuild material.
