Let's write a module part 1: Introduction

I recently had dinner with a good friend, who was picking my brain on how I prepare adventures for 5E. He’s a veteran player but looking to dip his toe in the GM water. That gave me an idea to write, in blog form, how I brainstorm and prepare adventures for 5E.

Goal

The goals of this series and the module are fairly simple:

  • Show my process in preparing a homebrew adventure
  • Cover levels 1 through 5 for a typical party of 4 PCs
  • Show how I use technology to organize everything during writing and for use at the table
  • Keep the module setting agnostic
  • The module should feel open world to the PCs and not a railroad
  • Have some fun

Topics that will be covered

  • Brainstorming
  • Software / Technology used
  • Maps
  • Miscellaneous GM’ing tips and tricks
