Is Tim Beck actually at fault?

I found a link to some Tim Beck quotes in a Burnt Orange Nation comment thread1 that are worth reading.

Here’s the doozy Tim Beck quote:

“We were able to do the things we needed to do, but there was a lot that we had to do, you know?” Beck said. “There was just a lot of offense. It was hard. And there were a lot of reasons for it — could be recruiting, could be weather. There were just a lot of different things.

“Here’s what’s interesting for the non-average fan: When you design an offense, you can’t just run an offense and say ‘By God, I’m going to run my offense, I don’t care if it works or not.’ If it’s not fitting, or it’s not working, or you’re not scoring or not moving the ball, you’d better do something, because you’re going to lose.

“And that’s how I approached the offense. If we were struggling or we didn’t have a good matchup or we had injuries at certain positions, we had to adjust. You have to adjust and you have to improvise. And the coaches who don’t do that usually don’t last that long.”  (Emphasis added by me.)

So, knowing that’s how his philosophy was near the end of his Nebraska tenure, what’s happened? Is he not being allowed to adjust how he wants? Is Herman imposing Herman’s vision too soon? Are we out of “alignment”? Too much “alignment”? Did Beck just have the correct “coach speak” on that day years ago but is not actually able to adjust in the present day?
