Friends is a fun little utility cantrip but it has limited uses based on a key drawback. Read on for more.
Friends is an interesting little utility cantrip. In short, it allows you to
concentrate for a minute to get advantage on all CHA checks directed at one
creature of your choice that isn’t currently hostile to you. However, after the
spell ends, the creature knows you were messing with it. The spell even says
that a creature “prone to violence might attack you
”.
Think of it like a nerfed, “These aren’t the droids you’re looking for…” spell. Just imagine if Obi Wan pulled that off and then a minute later the storm trooper realized that he was gimmicked. Not as powerful but still has its uses.
For use against NPCs that the PCs don’t intend to encounter again or that aren’t worried about phyisical repercussions, it may be useful considering that advantage is quite a large boon to rolls.
The spell also gives the GM a lot of discretion for non-combat ways the creature tries to seek retribution.
